Well, hello there! Thanks for stopping by. This is my first ever blog post… ok, I’ve written a bajillion blog posts over the years for the policy organisations I’ve worked with, but this is my first ever post for my own little company Insurgent Vision.
As you surely know, nonprofit and policy organisations face some particular challenges when it comes to creating effective videos. The issues they tackle can be very sensitive and messaging often needs to make complex issues understandable to wider audiences. That’s why it makes sense to find a motion graphic artists who knows the ins and outs of research and advocacy ☺️. Animation offers a uniquely powerful means to engage your audience and communicate your message in a way that is clear, concise and memorable.
I fell in love with video and animation while working in human rights research and advocacy. After a few bumpy collaborations with ‘normal’ videographers, I realised it’s often difficult for those who aren’t immersed in our work to figure out how best to bring it to life through compelling visuals. Having long been a passionate amateur photographer, I thought, ‘hey, I’ll just learn how to produce video and motion graphics too – how hard can it be?’.
Well, it turned out to be quite a learning curve. Animation in particular is an extremely complex skill, but after a few years of hard work and lots of training with the jedis at School of Motion, I finally mastered it (although like any creative skill, animation is a craft that can always be further honed and improved).
Over the coming months I’ll be using this blog to keep you abreast of the most interesting and innovative approaches to visual communications for social change. And don’t worry – I’ll be looking at all the great work that’s going on out there… it’s not all about me! In fact, I will be interviewing some of the world’s leading social change comms experts along with luminaries from the fields of video and animation. It’s going to be great!
Until next time!
