Faith Invest: Faith Plans

It won’t come as news to you that the world is facing a major environmental crisis. What might seem a little more surprising is just how important the role of religious organisations could be in tackling the climate emergency.

Faith Invest helps religious organisations leverage their power and influence to support progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. Around the world, faith groups own large swathes of land, countless buildings and other investments, and are deeply involved in providing basic services like health and education. What’s more, more than 80 percent of the global population belongs to a faith community… so it’s fair to say they’re pretty influential!

The folks at Faith Invest got in touch with me to create an animation explaining the pillars of their ‘Faith Plans’ program, which offers structured support and guidance, along with myriad tools and resources, to faith organisations. As they were getting ready to launch the new program, they realized a well-designed motion graphic would be the most effective way to explain it to religious organisations and faith groups around the world.

We aimed to produce a video that would feel earthy and wholesome, but also grown up and mature. So as to appeal to a very broad diversity of faith communities around the world, it also needed to feel serene and inclusive, avoiding too many trick and gimmicks. Hopefully the motion graphic we eventually delivered did the trick effectively!

Bringing complex policy issues to life, and making them accessible to a broad audience, can present many challenges. In today’s hectic world it’s hard to make people stop long enough to read the text and static graphics of a webpage, while a regular video can easily get lost amidst all the noise online. Hopefully the animation produced for Faith Invest will help, even if only in a very small way, to get more religious organisations to sign up to the Faith Plans program. There’s no doubting how important their work is and how much potential it has to made a big difference in the world, for all of us, in the years to come.
